Healthy Travel with Holistic Medicine
Enjoying your adventure vacation to the fullest starts with a little preventive medicine.
I started my career in Chinese Medicine traveling in India and treated so many travelers. Many of my patients had the expected GI problems (Delhi-belly) that were often worsened by dehydration. A few quick tips and travel items that I offer here can help you stay healthy and make the most of your time away from home.
My Favorite General Travel Items
- TCM formulas (ask me directly for a travel kit tailored for you and your family)
- Stream2Sea sunscreen (non-toxic and reef friendly)
- Aloe Vera for after-sun care
- Skin Blessing serums protect my skin and hair from the elements
- A fluoride-free toothpowder (non-liquid, compact, long-lasting, and effective)
Travel Essentials for Remote or Developing Areas
These are a few items that I always pack for overseas travel to remote or developing areas:
- Electrolytes and AG1 powder packets
- Iodine and other water purifying solutions
- TCM formulas for intestinal health (consult with me on this, there are several)
- Ear plugs, eye drops, eye mask, and peppermint oil
- Homeopathic nasal spray
- Vitamin C tablets
- Gan Mao Ling for “plane cold” prevention
- Lemon-Eucalyptus-Citronella oil blend for mosquito repellent
- L-Tryptophan and L-Theanine for jetlag management
The Benefits of Natural Medicine While Traveling
Natural medicine while traveling can support both prevention and recovery during your trip.
- Helps with cold, flu, and fever symptoms picked up on the plane
- Controls allergies without drugs
- Provides natural anti-microbial support for children and adults
- Prevention of illness from travel and can be taken one or two weeks prior to travel
- Supports acute gastro-intestinal discomfort
- Promotes easier bowel movements
- Helps treat skin lesions, rashes, and insect bites
- Supports sleep re-regulation for jetlag
- Treats various travel-related manifestations
- Supports traumatic injury management such as bruising, contusions, sprains, and fractures
Preparing for Your Next Trip
As you can see, most minor to moderate health issues encountered while traveling can often be managed with natural medicine. These remedies may help reduce illness and improve overall travel comfort. Set up a consultation before your next trip to see how I can help you prepare for your specific travel destination with greater confidence.
Travel Recovery Success Story
Dr. Hackett helped me with Giardia after returning from overseas with acupuncture and herbs.
I didn’t want to take Cipro because I had a bad reaction to it previously.
Now my travel kit has several herbal formulas and I’ve never felt better no matter where I’m sent to travel.
It really is preventative medicine. It works. — M. Brannon
