The Anti-Stress Project: Building Better Sleep and Inner Calm

Blissful sleep. Calm mind. Gentle focus. Meaningful purpose. Deep full-body breathing.

These are powerful goals to build a healthier and more balanced life around.

In Sanskrit, there is an analogy about the nature of the mind that has transcended time, culture, and many mystical philosophies. The mind is like a drunken monkey that has been stung by a scorpion. However, YOU are not the chaos of the mind — you are the observer.

From this perspective, you can choose whether to react (grab the monkey’s tail and let it drag you around) or you can observe your thoughts with awareness and intention to then choose your response to a situation or feeling. Developing this skill is a matter of developing a new habit. The level of awareness becomes deeper and more subtle the more often you practice. This the crux of meditation practice and is an important part of building a resilient internal world and achieving better, more restful sleep.meditation practice.

Holistic Support for Sleep Regulation

Whether you struggle with falling asleep, staying asleep, restless sleep, or difficulty waking in the morning, Traditional Chinese Medicine offers many supportive solutions for sleep regulation disturbances.

Additionally, Dr. Hackett uses differential diagnosis to identify your specific imbalance and create a treatment approach designed around your individual needs and wellness goals.

Lasting change often develops quietly through consistent daily practice. Much like steady drops of water filling a bucket, small efforts gradually create meaningful shifts in awareness, resilience, and emotional balance.

Over time, you can strengthen your confidence, deepen your self-trust, and create the inner calm you seek. Furthermore, self-acceptance becomes the foundation for long-term emotional wellness and personal growth.

Therapies and Modalities That Support Stress Relief

Dr. Hackett offers several supportive therapies that can be used individually or in combination. Some techniques provide immediate relief, while others encourage deeper transformation through consistency and practice.

These methods help make progress more accessible while supporting your ability to enjoy life more fully.

  • Acupuncture — helps the brain regulate deeper states of consciousness more efficiently.
  • Shamanic Journeywork – “Lonjiva Energywork” — an integrated approach inspired by Tibetan, Hindu, and Western traditions.
  • Havening, Tapping, EMDR, and NLP techniques.
  • Breathwork for nervous system regulation and emotional balance.
  • Referrals for microdosing support, when appropriate.

Holistic Support for Better Sleep

Sleep is the cornerstone of long-term wellness for the body, mind, and spirit. However, stress, aging, lifestyle changes, and shifts in overall health can all affect how well you rest. Whether you track your sleep with a device or simply notice changes in your energy and recovery, holistic medicine offers many supportive approaches to help improve sleep quality naturally.

Additionally, healthy sleep patterns rely heavily on the body’s regulation of cortisol and melatonin. When the body produces too much or too little of these hormones, sleep disturbances often develop. Testing can help identify these imbalances. In the meantime, acupuncture helps calm the nervous system while encouraging the brain and body to shift into a more relaxed and restorative state.

Personalized Approaches to Sleep Regulation

Dr. Hackett carefully selects herbs and supplements based on your unique health history, wellness goals, lifestyle, and concerns. Therefore, treatment plans are always individualized rather than based on a one-size-fits-all approach.

As hormone levels shift, overall health changes, or brain health becomes affected, sleep quality can also change significantly. Furthermore, improving sleep often supports better mood, energy, focus, and long-term wellness.

With more than 20 years of clinical experience, Dr. Hackett offers personalized strategies designed to help patients achieve deeper rest and healthier sleep patterns naturally.

Holistic Support for Anxiety and Mood Regulation

Anxiety, fear, rumination, depression, and other mood regulation challenges are complex problems that can make you feel like you are living half of a life. Imbalances within the body’s feedback systems, including endocrine function, gut health, emotional regulation, and nervous system balance are typically at the root of these issues. Both Traditional Chinese and Functional Medicine recognize that deeper body-mind patterns can strongly influence mood, focus, emotional resilience, and overall brain function.

Whether you currently take medications or prefer a natural approach, there are supportive treatment options that Dr. Hackett can offer to help you reduce anxiety, manage overthinking, and build healthier emotional patterns over time.

Additionally, Dr. Hackett uses several therapeutic methods to help patients break free from recurring cycles of stress, fear, and emotional exhaustion. She has personally practiced many of these techniques for decades and has guided hundreds of patients on their path toward greater inner wellness, balance, and freedom.

Therapies That Support Emotional Wellness

  • Acupuncture to encourage nervous system regulation and emotional balance.
  • Herbal medicine, nutritional supplements, and homeopathic remedies for individualized support.
  • Guided meditation and instruction for developing your own mindfulness practices.
  • Journeywork, including shamanic guided visualization, TsaLhung (Tibetan energy clearing work), and breathwork to encourage deeper emotional shifts.
  • Buddhist philosophy as a supportive foundation for meditation and self-awareness practices.

Personalized Care and Ongoing Support

One, several, or all of these approaches may be incorporated into your care plan depending on your goals and preferences. Many patients also continue working with their therapists or psychiatrists during treatment to ensure comprehensive emotional support as new layers of awareness are revealed in the process. Dr. Hackett does not adjust prescribed medications, as medication management remains the responsibility of your prescribing physician. She ensures that none of the supplements or herbs will interact with your current medications, but instead, support your progress.

Deepening Your Mind-Body-Spirit Connection

You may not feel that anything is specifically “wrong” with your health. Instead, you may simply want to cultivate a deeper sense of peace, strengthen your connection with your spiritual self, and create a more meaningful relationship between your inner and outer world. Getting regular ‘tune-ups” help you get a mini-break from normal stressors and reset you to a calmer normal with acupuncture combined with guided meditation.
As you deepen your awareness and align more closely with your soul’s purpose, you can begin releasing thought patterns, emotional habits, and mind-body-spirit dynamics that no longer support your growth. Over time, this process helps transform that energy into greater clarity, balance, and purpose.

Guidance for Personal Growth and Inner Balance

Dr. Hackett has many years of experience and training in shamanic journeywork with teachers from around the world. Additionally, Tibetan Rinpoches have shared powerful teachings that continue to influence her approach to balance, mindfulness, and emotional well-being.

Through breathwork, guided practices, and other supportive modalities, Dr. Hackett helps patients explore deeper levels of healing and self-awareness. Furthermore, these techniques can help strengthen your personal practice while encouraging greater peace, resilience, and emotional freedom.

Her goal is to help guide you toward creating sustainable practices that support long-term inner growth, spiritual connection, and a more grounded sense of self

Dealing with “monkey mind” is challenging in these times, 10x with all of the social channels offering a dopamine distraction. All of the things that draw your attention or push into our mind space seem to intensify year-over-year. What to do?

Start with breaking down the problem. In Eastern philosophy, the nature of mind is famously described as a “drunken monkey that has been stung by a scorpion.” Fits? Think about the fact that that little saying was made up well over one thousand years ago. Distraction or constant shift of focus is a fact of human existence. It is the nature of mind itself. We are the observers. It is up to us as to how we manage our own internal states to handle our distraction prone state.

There are herbs and supplements that help with brain health and attention regulation, of course. The practical elements of understanding the structure of your mind, how and why it works, and how to manage the development of your highest self can all be structured and supported. The goal of all of this is freedom. Pain in life is a fact, suffering is optional. Unlock that door. It IS within you.

The deep dark well of depression is difficult to understand if you have never experienced it life-robbing effects. There are many layers to the whys and wherefores of depression, but isn’t the real question: how to I get out?

Thyroid regulation, brain health, gut health, and overall inflammation must be addressed. There is an internal regulation that is important as well. Depression can be especially fatiguing so it is important to shore up as many body systems to optimal function as possible and remain vigilant about maintenance routines.

Meditation and other mindfulness practices are helpful to shed light on the complexities of depression. These techniques are not meant to replace therapy, but to enhance it. Whether you are working with a mental health professional or not (Dr. Hackett has referrals on offer) taking a fresh look at possibilities for better overall health and wellness is available to you.
